Wild Piñatas is a knitwear project inspired by South American culture and aesthetics, exploring the visual aspects of a piñata and how they can be translated through knit. Colour and texture played important roles in this project as the colour scheme reflects the traditional vibrancy of Peru & Mexico, and the loop hole shag pile knit reflects the fringed texture of a piñatas shell.
Fringes and shag piles was a textural focus for this project through both hand knitting & machine knitting techniques. The jacket was completely hand knitted using a loop stitch technique, and the jumpsuit was created using a woven fabric with machine knitted inserts. The machine knitted insert on the bodice is a marle created from a pink and orange yarn, and the insert on the pant is made with both flat surface yarns and e-wrap shag piles to create the fringes.
